Thanda Island
White sand beaches, sparkling waters, a flourishing marine world surrounding you and a team of hosts looking after your every whim – Thanda Island, located between Tanzania’s mainland and Mafia Island, offers complete privacy and exudes romance and adventure. With only the sun and the moon guiding you through the days this is a place where time seems to stand still.

Thanda Island

Inspired by the pictures Ernest Hemingway painted through his words, Thanda Island boasts picturesque beaches, sparkling blue water and flourishing marine life.  Situated between Tanzania's mainland and Mafia Island in the warm Indian Ocean, it is easily accesible by helicopter from Dar es Salaam or a boat transfer from Mafia Island. This private, tropical island exudes ultimate exclusivity and natural luxury - a perfect adventure for a family or a group of friends looking to create lasting memories.

Only 20 acres in size, the island is home to a five-bedroom villa catering to a maximum of ten guests.  Guests share and oversized living space, outdoor deck, lengthy infinity pool, yoga sala, gym and a bonfire pit. The hosts have perfected the art of understanding guests' needs and desires to create the most perfectly tailored experience.

For those seeking reflection and relaxation, strolls along the white sand beaches, exploring the tropical inland on foot or a spot of tennis are just some of the spoils to see you through your days. The calm, warm water ranges in colour from so perfectly clear to a deep royal blue, inviting guests to participate in a myriad of fully inclusive water based activities.  Swimming with Whale Sharks (seasonally), snorkelling, deep-sea fishing, sailing on a traditional wooden dhow, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding are just some of the adventures awaiting. Scuba Diving and massages can easily be arranged too. With a private guide and a dedicated boat house fully equipped, this beautifully fragile ecosystem is beckoning to be explored and appreciated.

Plenty of care and attention is focused on cuisine. Only the freshest of produce is considered and the dining venues are left to the imagination - indoors or al fresco, from breakfast on sand banks to picnics on the beach and glittering dinners under the stars.
